Paris Brunner shrugs off Germany call-up hype as Monaco striker keeps scoring
Monaco youngster keeps feet on ground amid Klopp interest
AS Monaco forward Paris Brunner has moved to cool speculation that he could earn a first senior Germany call-up next month, insisting he is focused solely on his club form after a blistering start to the season in Ligue 1 and the UEFA Conference League.
Brunner has caught the eye of Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp, fuelling rumours of a potential call-up for November's UEFA Nations League meetings with Serbia and the Netherlands. But the attacker, who opened the scoring in Monaco's 3-0 victory over Freiburg in the Conference League on Thursday night, is keeping his feet on the ground.
"I'm trying to do what I do best – score goals," Brunner told German broadcaster RTL. The forward, who does not appear concerned by the lack of direct contact with Klopp, added: "The initiative came from him, I'm just carrying on as usual."
Klopp has previously acknowledged the player's emergence without committing to a senior role. In September, the Germany boss said: "I haven't spoken to him, but I'm aware of everything."
Prolific start in France
Since joining Monaco from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, Brunner has hit the ground running. He has scored four Ligue 1 goals in his first five league appearances of the 2026-27 campaign, while adding a further four goals in this season's Conference League.
His early-season form has been eye-catching across all competitions. In Monaco's 2-1 Conference League win over CSKA Sofia on 16 October, Brunner scored inside the opening five minutes and later assisted Ansu Fati, taking his tally to seven goals in his first eight club appearances for the principality club, according to prior reporting from that date.
At international youth level, Brunner has also found the net twice in three Germany Under-21 appearances, adding to the growing hype around the teenager.
Wait-and-see on senior honour
Whether Brunner's form translates into a senior Germany debut next month remains to be seen. With Klopp yet to make direct contact, the youngster's place in the squad for the Nations League double-header is far from assured — but his scoring streak is doing his chances no harm.
