Tonali declares Milan 'team of my heart' after £100m Tottenham switch

Sandro Tonali celebrates

Sandro Tonali has insisted that AC Milan will always be the club of his heart, even after his £100 million move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Speaking to Sky Sport, with quotes reported via MilanNews, the Italy midfielder was unambiguous about his enduring bond with the Rossoneri.

“Milan will always be the team of my heart, no matter how much time passes. Even in 20 years, I’ll keep following them whenever my commitments allow, because this feeling will never change.”

A lifelong Milan supporter, Tonali joined the club from Brescia in 2020 and was a key figure in the side that lifted the Scudetto in 2022. His departure the following summer upset many supporters.

Tonali backs De Zerbi at Tottenham

The 26-year-old joined Spurs in July for a club-record fee, choosing to work under compatriot Roberto De Zerbi ahead of offers from Manchester City and Arsenal. De Zerbi had steered Tottenham to safety on the final day of last season before overseeing a major summer rebuild.

Spurs have made a difficult start to the campaign, but Tonali believes the squad is gradually coming together.

“We shouldn’t dwell on our start, we have to take the positives. The performances have been excellent. Everyone loves the coach, who suffers more than anyone here at Tottenham. We know we have to give him a lot, because we haven’t achieved anything yet.”
“Since last week we’ve been much more of a team, and we can’t stop now. We have a tough away game next, so we need to stay positive and play our football.”
