Cheltenham hold on as Stanway saves vital penalty

Stanway’s save secures Cheltenham victory

Cheltenham beat Newport 1-0, with Charlie McCann’s fifth-minute strike proving enough after goalkeeper Wyll Stanway made a fine penalty save to protect the lead.

Jake Evans created the goal with a strong run down the right before pulling the ball back for McCann, who guided his shot into the top-left corner of Jordan Wright’s net.

Northampton escape the bottom three

Northampton climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 home victory over Colchester. Matty Warhurst headed the Cobblers into an early lead, and Sam Hoskins flicked in a second shortly after half-time. Swindon’s derby at Bristol Rovers ended goalless.
