Barcelona ready to test Manchester City’s resolve one more time

Barcelona are preparing a final attempt to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri after two previous proposals were rejected, according to reports from Spain and England.

Barca Blaugranes reports that Barcelona are willing to submit a package worth €70 million, structured as €60m up front plus €10m in add-ons. Manchester City are reportedly seeking €80m, leaving the clubs still apart on the midfielder’s valuation.

A separate breakdown published by Get Spanish Football News puts the latest proposal at €65m: €55m fixed, €5m linked to appearances and a further €5m tied to trophies. The report says the appearance-related amount is effectively guaranteed, while the title-based bonus is subject to more demanding conditions.

“New figures on the table: €55 million fixed, €5m variable for matches and €5m variable for titles. €65m in total.”

The differing figures may reflect separate stages or descriptions of Barcelona’s evolving offer, but both reports agree that the Catalan club have increased their bid and are trying to reach an agreement before the transfer window closes.

Barcelona are said to remain confident that a deal can be completed. The club’s wider transfer plans could also influence the timing: reports indicate that Barca hope to conclude a €55m transfer involving Ferran Torres and Paris Saint-Germain before turning their full attention to the Rodri negotiations.

Contract terms reportedly agreed with the player

Get Spanish Football News reports that Rodri prefers Barcelona to Real Madrid and that an agreement has been reached on the terms of a contract. The remaining obstacle is therefore described as an agreement between Barcelona and Manchester City.
