Smriti Mandhana Honored with Custom Barbie Doll as Part of Global Dream Team Ahead of International Women's Day
Smriti Mandhana's Inspiring Recognition from Barbie
Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana has achieved a unique milestone by being named in Barbie’s first-ever Dream Team, receiving a custom one-of-a-kind doll inspired by her remarkable journey in cricket. The announcement, made on March 5, 2025, comes just ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, highlighting women who have shattered barriers in their fields.
The toy manufacturer Mattel created the doll in Mandhana's likeness to celebrate her achievements, and it will not be available for retail sale. This initiative underscores Barbie's commitment to inspiring future generations of girls by showcasing trailblazing women from around the world.
Global Dream Team Lineup
Mandhana is in prestigious company in the Dream Team, which includes tennis legend Serena Williams, astronaut Kellie Gerardi, racing driver Regina Sirvent Alvarado, England footballer Chloe Kelly, singer Helene Fischer, climber Zoja Skubis, and surfer Stephanie Gilmore.
Mattel stated, “The dream is real and we have the team to prove it.” In their announcement, they added, “Ahead of International Women’s Day, Barbie is proud to announce our first-ever Barbie Dream Team, honouring eight women from across the globe who have led the way for future generations of girls by accomplishing breakthrough firsts in their chosen paths.”
Mandhana's Reaction and Career Highlights
Sharing pictures of her personalized Barbie doll on Instagram, Mandhana expressed her emotions: “Still processing this moment… Seeing a one-of-a-kind @Barbie doll inspired by my journey is something I never imagined growing up. Cricket has given me so much, and if my story helps even one girl believe she belongs on the field, that means everything. Honored to be part of Barbie’s Dream Team alongside incredible women from around the world who are breaking barriers in their own fields. When girls see what’s possible, they dream bigger.”
As India’s vice-captain across all formats, Mandhana is one of the team's most reliable batters. She recently reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings and led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their second Women's Premier League title earlier this year. At the height of her career, Mandhana continues to excel both on and off the field, inspiring young girls worldwide.
