David Sullivan Resigns as West Ham Joint-Chair Amid 'Serious Historic Allegations'
Shock Resignation at West Ham United
David Sullivan has officially resigned as the joint-chair of West Ham United and stepped aside as a director of both West Ham United Football Club and WH Holding Limited. The move comes after the 77-year-old Welsh businessman was alerted to the impending publication of what are described as "serious historic allegations" against him.
Sullivan Denies All Claims
In a strongly worded statement, Sullivan characterized the accusations as "factually incorrect and entirely false," asserting that the claims have been "sensationalised by the media." He attributed the allegations to his extensive history in the adult industry, stating that after building businesses and meeting thousands of women, such claims were "sadly inevitable."
"I categorically deny these claims," Sullivan stated, adding that the allegations are "decades-old" and pertain strictly to his personal life. He further emphasized that none of the claims relate to his operations at West Ham or his more than 30 years of involvement in professional football.
Legal Battle and Club Turmoil
Sullivan indicated that he is stepping down to dedicate his full energy to fighting the accusations. He has already engaged a legal team and intends to pursue full legal and public redress against every complaint made against him.
This leadership crisis follows a period of immense instability for the club. West Ham were relegated from the Premier League last month, ending a 14-year tenure in the top flight. The relegation triggered widespread fan unrest, with supporters chanting "Sack the board" and directing personal vitriol toward Sullivan during the club's final days in the league.
"I am stepping down to apply my full energy and attention on fighting these false allegations... I will be seeking full redress, legally and publicly, on every single front." — David Sullivan
