Who is Martin Sherif? Liberia-born Netherlands youth international who went from Everton's academy to Port Vale
The Football Association's decision to fine Everton forward Martin Sherif £5,000 over 61 bets placed from accounts in his name has put a spotlight on one of the club's younger attacking prospects.
A Liberia-born Netherlands youth international
Sherif, 20, was born in Liberia and has represented the Netherlands at youth international level. His pathway into English football began in 2019, when he joined Everton's youth set-up.
Progress at Goodison Park
After several years in the academy, he stepped up his involvement with the senior squad, beginning to train with the first team in early 2025 — a mark of the progress he had made at the club.
Loan spell at Port Vale
In February he joined Port Vale on loan for the remainder of the season. Sherif made 17 League One appearances for the club and scored twice, a campaign that ended in relegation for the Valiants.
