Long-time Aston Martin engineer Tom McCullough is set to leave the Silverstone-based team at the end of the current Formula 1 season, it has been confirmed.

McCullough has spent more than a decade with the team through its various guises – Force India, Racing Point and now Aston Martin – working in a variety of roles including a focus on trackside performance. He was moved away from the F1 project at the start of 2025 into a leadership position within another arm of the business, focusing on "the expansion of the team's broader range of racing categories", as part of a wider senior leadership restructure.

His trackside duties were taken on by Mike Krack, who assumed the role of Chief Trackside Officer. It has now emerged that McCullough will depart the team, currently 10th in the Constructors' Championship, at the end of the season. It is unclear at this stage what his next role will be.

A career spanning more than two decades

McCullough began his career in Formula 1 when he joined Williams in 2002 as a data engineer, before evolving into a race engineer working with the likes of Nico Hulkenberg, Rubens Barrichello and Bruno Senna. After a decade with the British team, he enjoyed a short stint at Sauber as Head of Track Engineering in 2013 before returning to the UK to head up the trackside engineering team at Force India.

During his time with the team, Force India secured back-to-back fourth-place finishes in 2016 and 2017, as well as a maiden victory under the Racing Point name in 2020, when the squad also finished fourth in the championship.

Rebuilding under Newey

Aston Martin are currently led by design guru Adrian Newey, who holds the role of Team Principal and Managing Technical Partner. The team brought a B-spec car to the last event in Hungary, having run the slowest car for much of the season, and made a step forward in performance that allowed them to fight in the midfield.

The British team will debut further chassis developments in Monza and Baku, while engine partner Honda will bring their first upgraded power unit of the season to the next race at Zandvoort.
