Tottenham confirm £85m signing of Savio from Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of winger Savio from Manchester City for a fee reported to be £85m, as Roberto De Zerbi's side continue the most extravagant transfer window in the club's history.

Tottenham's new signing Savio

The Brazilian, known as Savinho during his time at City, has signed a long-term contract with the north London side believed to be a five-year deal. Reports suggest Spurs agreed on an initial £75m with a further £10m available in add-ons, extending what has already been a record-breaking window for the club.

The arrival takes Tottenham's summer spending beyond the £300m mark, following the club-record £100m capture of Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United. De Zerbi had insisted there was more to come from Spurs in the market, and he has now delivered on that promise.

Savio was linked with a move to Tottenham during the 2025 summer window, though City reportedly rejected an offer for the Brazilian at the time.

"It's taken a while but I'm very happy to be here," the 22-year-old told the club website. "It's a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.

"As soon as I spoke to the head coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team."

Savio made 84 appearances for City after joining from Troyes ahead of the 2024-25 season, scoring seven goals and providing 13 assists. Across the previous two campaigns, Savio completed the second-most dribbles among City players (146) and the second-most take-on ending carries (196), trailing Jeremy Doku in both categories (300 and 344, respectively).

Savio may not be the last City player to join Spurs this summer, with Omar Marmoush also heavily linked with a move to De Zerbi's side before the end of the deadline.

Tottenham began their league campaign with a 3-0 defeat at Brentford, but will look to build momentum in their EFL Cup clash with Charlton on Wednesday before hosting Newcastle United on Saturday.
