Leeds United co-owner and San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested on Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, on two misdemeanour charges, according to court records. The 46-year-old was released on Sunday on an Own Recognisance (OR) bond, the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

York pleaded no contest to both charges — disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools — on Monday. He was fined $150 froo conduct and $1,000 for possessing criminal tools, and sentenced to two days in jail. The fourth-degree disorderly conduct charge was originally listed as engaging in prostitution before it was changed.

Court records also ordered that a cellular device be returned to York and that $160 be forfeited as part of an agreement by both parties, with the sum going to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.

What role does York play at Leeds?

York is perhaps better known in English football as a co-owner of Leeds United, a stake he has held since 2023 when 49ers Enterprises completed its takeover of the club. He is also in a similar situation at Rangers, having become a co-owner in 2025.

However, at Leeds — a club that was promoted back to the Premier League in May — the American is one of several voices among a consortium of owners, rather than an executive who runs the day-to-day. He sits alongside Marathe and other investors such as Peter Lowry, Andrew Schwartzberg, Eugene Schneur, Andreas Dracopoulos and Robbie Evans among the principal shareholders.

In Yorkshire, York has rarely been seen at Elland Road this campaign and his public remarks have been rare, so the mood among the fanbase will likely be more focused on what the arrest does to his reputation and the potential knock-on effects for the club's ownership structure.

The Premier League operates an Owners and Directors Test and any criminal conviction — even for a misdemeanour — can trigger review under that framework.
