Bournemouth land late Di Gregorio on loan from Juventus

Bournemouth have announced the signing of goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio on a season-long loan deal from Juventus, as the Cherries bolster their options between the posts ahead of a demanding campaign that includes Europa League football.

Michele Di Gregorio in action

The 29-year-old joins the Cherries after Guglielmo Vicario's arrival at Juventus earlier this summer, with the latter immediately installed as the go-to option and keeping a clean sheet in their Serie A opener against Frosinone. That left Di Gregorio surplus to requirements in Turin, prompting his switch to the Premier League.

Di Gregorio has made 84 appearances across the last two seasons for the Bianconeri, who missed out on Champions League qualification last term, and has kept 35 clean sheets for the club in all competitions — the joint-fourth most among Europe's top five leagues across the two previous campaigns.

In Serie A specifically, only Mile Svilar (35) and Yann Sommer (28) have registered more clean sheets than Di Gregorio (27) since the start of the 2024-25 season, while he is the only goalkeeper in the competition to post 20+ shutouts over the past two campaigns without making a single error leading to a shot.

Now he will challenge Djordje Petrovic for the number one spot in Marco Rose's Bournemouth squad, with the Cherries also competing in the Europa League this season. Di Gregorio could make his debut when Bournemouth host Everton on Saturday.

"I'm very happy to be here," Di Gregorio told the Bournemouth website. "This is a very important moment for me and that's why I think the decision to come here to Bournemouth was the right one."

"I felt the club's desire to have me here and I felt the ambition that this club has to continue to grow and do great things. The Premier League is the most beautiful league in the world. It's an honour for me to be here and to have the chance to play at such a high level."

Di Gregorio's arrival gives Bournemouth a proven, high-volume shot-stopper as they juggle domestic duties with a European adventure, and the competition with Petrovic promises to be one of the tightest selection calls of Rose's early reign on the south coast.
