Casado explains why Galicia won out over other suitors

Marc Casado has joined Deportivo La Coruña on a season-long loan in a move that was finalised right at the very end of the summer window. The midfielder had been linked with a number of other clubs but surprised many by heading to the Galician side following their promotion back to La Liga.

Casado has now spoken publicly about his decision to move and explained why he was happy to commit to Deportivo. The trigger, it turns out, was a game played three years ago.

“Three years ago, when we played here with Barça’s reserve team, we had talks with the club. We considered coming here, but Barça offered us the chance to play for the first team,” he told reporters. “It didn’t work out, but I left that match with an incredible impression of Dépor, because of the stadium, the fans, the way the game went… When they offered me the opportunity, the memory of that match pushed me to make that decision.”

Grateful to Barça, focused on Dépor

The 21-year-old was keen to stress his affection for his parent club while making clear his attention is now fixed on his new surroundings. “Barça is the club that has given me everything so far. I am very grateful to the club. But right now I am focused on Dépor; we have incredible ambition to have a good season. The team is eager and we have enough quality to have a very good season.”

Casado will be hoping to make an impact this season at a Deportivo side that have made a strong start to the campaign, picking up eight points from their opening four games.
