Anthony Davidson Ranks the Top Six F1 Driver Line-Ups for 2026

Assessing F1's Driver Pairings Ahead of 2026

Most Formula 1 teams carry over their 2025 line-ups into the new era, prompting Sky Sports F1's Anthony Davidson to rank the top six pairings. Based on last year's Constructors' standings, he analyzes strengths as the Australian Grand Prix approaches, promising a 'wild' season start under fresh regulations.

1. McLaren: Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri

'This is undeniably one of the best driver line-ups in F1 right now,' Davidson declares. The duo's 2025 title chase showcased their even match, maximizing McLaren's early Constructors' win. 'They really wrung every ounce of performance out of the machinery,' he says, eager for their 2026 potential.

2. Mercedes: George Russell and Kimi Antonelli

Antonelli's rookie year impressed as 'exceptionally naturally gifted' and energetic, complementing Russell's professionalism and racecraft. 'He brings such good energy and positivity to the team,' notes Davidson, predicting strong results from this 'exciting' pair.

3. Red Bull: Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar

Verstappen remains 'the strongest driver on the grid,' improving yearly despite a 2025 Barcelona lapse. Hadjar, a standout 2025 rookie, now faces intense pressure: 'I'm really intrigued to see how he's going to handle the pressure cooker of being in Red Bull with Verstappen.'

4. Ferrari: Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton

On paper, the 'strongest line-up,' but Hamilton's recent struggles raise questions. Davidson expects a rebound with 2026 cars suiting his style, paired with Leclerc's 'super-fast' qualifying flair. 'I'm expecting them to be a force to be reckoned with once again.'

5. Williams: Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz

Williams' transformation from backmarkers owes much to Sainz's arrival, spurring Albon and the team to ambition. 'His professionalism and commitment to perfection is there for all to see,' Davidson praises, noting the signing's elevating impact.

6. Haas: Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon

Ocon's experience shines under pressure, while Bearman's excitement—highlighted by his Mexico P4—adds spark. 'The two of them do bounce off each other well,' says Davidson, hoping the car delivers surprises for better performances.
