USA 4-2 Chile: Hall and Albert make history in another four-goal win

Teenagers headline another United States victory

The United States made it back-to-back wins with a 4-2 victory over Chile at Energizer Park, but the result was overshadowed by record-breaking performances from teenagers Julian Hall and Mathis Albert.

Mathis Albert celebrates after scoring for the United States

After making 10 changes from the team that defeated Peru 4-1 on Saturday, the USA produced another four-goal display. Sebastian Berhalter was central to the performance, scoring once and helping create the winning goal, while several newcomers made a strong impression.

Berhalter gives USA the lead

The match began at an open pace. Lawrence Vigouroux denied Miles Robinson with a header, while Chile went close through Ben Brereton Diaz and Dario Osorio, who both hit the woodwork within two minutes.

The United States took the lead in the 37th minute. Hall cleverly dummied Sergino Dest's pass, allowing Berhalter to finish calmly. Chile equalised in first-half stoppage time when Diego Ulloa reacted quickest after Chris Brady was unable to deal with the danger.

Chile briefly turn the game around

Chile moved ahead four minutes into the second half through a powerful strike from Maximiliano Gutierrez. Their advantage lasted only a matter of minutes, however, as Hall glanced Gio Reyna's inswinging cross into the net to restore parity.

The USA regained the lead in the 72nd minute. Chris Richards rose to power Berhalter's corner past Vigouroux, before the hosts sealed the result in added time.

Auston Trusty headed Antonee Robinson's free-kick back across goal, and Albert stretched to divert the ball off the underside of the crossbar and in.

Hall and Albert break United States records

Hall's goal made him the youngest player to score in each of his first two appearances for the United States. The 18-year-old had also scored on debut against Peru.

Albert, aged 17 years and 131 days, became the youngest scorer in the modern history of the USMNT, a record dating back at least to 1988. He surpassed Christian Pulisic, who was 17 years and 253 days old when he scored against Bolivia in May 2016.

The USA narrowly led Chile in shots, 18-17, and shots on target, 9-8, but created the clearer opportunities. Their expected-goals advantage was 2.55 to 1.23 ahead of Saturday's meeting with Mexico.
