Pant adds three major records in Colombo

Rishabh Pant continued his record-breaking run in Test cricket during India's second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, surpassing Australia great Adam Gilchrist to become the third-highest six-hitter in the format.

Pant struck two sixes in his 63 off 89 balls, accompanying his aggressive innings with six fours. The maximums took his Test six tally to 102 in 52 matches, moving him beyond Gilchrist's 100 sixes in 96 Tests.

Pant had already become the first Indian batter to reach 100 sixes in Test cricket in the previous match. Only England's Ben Stokes, with 138 sixes in 122 Tests, and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, with 107 in 101 matches, remain ahead of him on the all-time list.

Pant overtakes Dhoni in away and neutral Tests

The innings also took Pant past MS Dhoni as India's highest run-scorer by a wicketkeeper in away or neutral Tests. Pant now has 2,534 runs in 36 Tests and 64 innings at an average of 41.54, including six centuries and 11 fifties.

Dhoni ended his Test career with 2,496 runs in 48 matches, with one century and 18 fifties.

New World Test Championship benchmark

Pant also became India's leading run-scorer in the World Test Championship, overtaking India captain Shubman Gill. His WTC tally stands at 2,948 runs in 42 matches and 74 innings, with an average of 42.11 and a strike rate above 74.

His WTC record includes six centuries, 18 fifties and a best score of 146. Gill has 2,917 runs in 42 matches, including 10 centuries and nine fifties.
