Brydon Carse withdrawn as investigation continues

England have removed Brydon Carse from their squad for the second Men’s Rothesay Test against Pakistan while an investigation into a nightclub incident in Derby remains ongoing.

The 31-year-old fast bowler was reportedly seen in handcuffs outside a Derby nightclub on Saturday night. The England and Wales Cricket Board said the incident is being investigated by the Cricket Regulator, but did not provide further details.

Carse had initially been included in England’s squad, despite not featuring in the playing XI for the first Test. He was released to play county cricket and subsequently appeared for Durham in their 338-run County Championship victory over Derbyshire last week.

“Brydon Carse will no longer be available for selection for the Second Men’s Rothesay Test Match while this investigation is ongoing and the full facts are obtained,” the ECB said.

Sonny Baker returns to the squad

Sonny Baker has been called up in Carse’s place. Baker’s only previous Test appearance came during England’s series in New Zealand in June.

The decision follows similar action taken earlier in the summer, when Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were also dropped while an investigation into a nightclub incident was underway.

England head into the second Test with a 1-0 series lead after winning the opening match by an innings and 103 runs. The next Test is scheduled to begin at Lord’s on Thursday, August 27.
