Barcelona confirm Lionel Messi tribute at rebuilt Camp Nou after 2028

Barcelona to honour Lionel Messi with Camp Nou tribute

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed the club is drawing up plans to pay tribute to club icon Lionel Messi at the Spotify Camp Nou once the stadium's redevelopment is complete.

The veteran attacker brought a close to his legendary spell in Barcelona colours in the summer of 2021. After spending the entirety of his career to that point plying his trade in Catalonia's capital, financial problems forced the Argentine out of the club. Messi has since gone on to line out for French champions Paris Saint-Germain and his current employers Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

The 39-year-old, though, will always be best remembered for his brilliance in the red and blue of Barcelona. In turn, it should come as no surprise that those in positions of power at the Camp Nou are planning a special tribute for the club's greatest-ever player.

Speaking during an exchange with the media, as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano, this weekend, Barca chief Joan Laporta confirmed: “We are planning for the Leo Messi tribute once the Spotify Camp Nou is completed. It will be a beautiful tribute. We hope to complete the stadium by the start of 2028.”

While details of the tribute remain under wraps, the club's intention is clear: to celebrate the legacy of the man who defined an era at the Catalan giants once supporters are back in a renovated home.
