Ronald Koeman Jr scores two penalties as Telstar keeper makes Eredivisie history

Goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr scored twice from the penalty spot to rescue a point for Dutch side Telstar in a 2-2 Eredivisie draw against Cambuur, becoming the first goalkeeper to score two goals in a single Eredivisie game.

The 31-year-old converted his first penalty on 63 minutes before grabbing a dramatic equaliser from the spot in the 101st minute — the 11th minute of added time — to level the contest at 2-2.

A rescue act for ten-man Telstar

Koeman Jr's moment from the penalty spot came after Telstar had a man sent off in the 22nd minute and then conceded two second-half goals, leaving them trailing visiting Cambuur with less than half an hour to play.

His brace continues an unusual goalscoring habit for a goalkeeper: he had previously scored a penalty before, converting the winner in May against FC Volendam to confirm Telstar's safety from relegation. Koeman Jr now has three career goals.

Following a famous goalscoring name

He is the son of former Netherlands defender Ronald Koeman, who scored 115 goals during his career despite playing mainly in defence. Of those 115 goals, 60 were free-kicks, including the winner for Barcelona against Sampdoria in the 1992 European Cup final and the first in the Netherlands' decisive 2-0 win against England in qualifying for the 1994 World Cup.

Koeman Sr also converted in the shootout as PSV Eindhoven beat Benfica on penalties in the 1988 final.

The elder Koeman — the former Barcelona, Everton and Southampton manager — resigned as Netherlands coach in June after their last-32 exit to Morocco at the World Cup.
