Kennet Eichhorn pushes for early Leverkusen return after stabilising metabolism
Eichhorn resumes training after health setback
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kennet Eichhorn is making progress in his recovery from a metabolic disorder and is pushing to return before the end of 2026, according to Kicker.
The 17-year-old, who joined Leverkusen from Hertha BSC in the summer, had to step away from football after developing the condition. Treatment has now stabilised his metabolism, allowing him to gradually resume strength training. He is also working to rebuild muscle and endurance after losing weight during gastrointestinal problems; further medication is still required.

A year-end return is possible, but not assured
Leverkusen have been planning for Eichhorn to return in the new year, but the midfielder is targeting an earlier comeback. Kicker reports that he would need to be back on the training pitch by early November to have a realistic chance of playing before the winter break. The more likely outcome, the publication says, is that his first appearance for Leverkusen will come in 2027.
Eichhorn arrived from Hertha amid reported interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Before his move, he played 17 matches for Hertha in the 2. Bundesliga last season.
