Eberl fronts press conference as Kompany sidelined by hip problem and cold ahead of Arsenal clash

Eberl stands in for Kompany after Bayern rout Leipzig

Sporting director Max Eberl replaced Vincent Kompany at the post-match press conference following FC Bayern's emphatic 6-1 win over RB Leipzig. The Belgian coach, who has been struggling with a hip problem, was unable to stand on the touchline and watched the goals from his seat.

Vincent Kompany on the Bayern bench

"Nothing stops him from being with the team. He sat on the bench, so it wasn't a big problem," Eberl said after the game, clarifying the situation.

It was also reported that Kompany has been suffering from a cold during the week. Eberl said the coach did not actively direct the side from the sideline, with assistants Aaron Danks and René Maric taking charge.

"He didn't actively coach the team on the sideline. Aaron and René took over, and it shows how harmonious the staff is. I assume it won't be a problem on Wednesday."

Eberl's comments referred to Kompany's availability for the game against last season's finalists, Arsenal, in the Champions League.

Bayern end mini-slump

The six-goal haul against Champions League participants RB Leipzig ended a small run of poor results for Bayern. The win moved them to the top of the Bundesliga, ahead of Freiburg's visit to Leverkusen on Sunday.
