Greaves hits maiden century as Kuldeep Yadav takes four wickets in opening India-West Indies ODI

Justin Greaves struck a composed, fighting century while Kuldeep Yadav produced an incisive four-wicket haul as West Indies posted a competitive total against India in the opening One-Day International at the Sports Hub International Cricket Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

India vs West Indies 1st ODI Action

Greaves and Campbell Lay Strong Foundation

After Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to field first, the West Indies top order responded positively. Returning opener John Campbell came out with aggressive intent, setting the tone with a brisk 62 off 60 deliveries, studded with six boundaries and three sixes. Campbell and Justin Greaves combined for a fluent 135-run opening stand in 19.2 overs, frustrating the Indian seam attack.

Greaves was the anchor of the Caribbean innings, batting with composure to register his century. Reaching three figures in 108 balls with 12 fours, Greaves' calculated 101 held the middle order together even as Indian bowlers tightened their lines in the middle overs.

Kuldeep Sparks Indian Fightback

India found their breakthrough when Kuldeep Yadav was brought into the attack. The left-arm wrist-spinner broke the opening partnership by having Campbell caught by Prasidh Krishna. Keacy Carty struggled for momentum, making 13 off 31 balls before falling to Krishna.

Kuldeep then tore through the West Indies middle order in quick succession. He trapped West Indies captain Shai Hope (12) and then dismissed Greaves leg-before-wicket, before removing Jewel Andrew for a golden duck in consecutive deliveries to leave the visitors at 198 for 5. Kuldeep finished his 10-over spell with standout figures of 4 for 40, including a maiden over.

Late Flurry From Jangoo and Chase

Amir Jangoo provided crucial impetus in the death overs, striking an unbeaten 37 off 31 balls with five boundaries. Alongside Roston Chase, who contributed a valuable 24 off 32 balls before falling to Krishna (2/44), Jangoo ensured the West Indies surpassed the 250-run mark to set up an intriguing chase for the Indian batting lineup featuring Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and captain Gill.
