Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube Felicitated by Maharashtra CM After T20 World Cup Triumph
Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube Honored for World Cup Heroics
In a celebration of India's cricketing excellence, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis felicitated Mumbai cricketers Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube on Tuesday for their instrumental roles in India's T20 World Cup 2026 victory. The country remains in celebratory mode after India's commanding 96-run win over New Zealand in the final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
A Proud Moment for Mumbai Cricketers
The Mumbai duo met Chief Minister Fadnavis at his official residence Varsha, where they were congratulated and praised for their contribution in helping India defend the trophy and bring pride to the nation. Mumbai Cricket Association president Ajinkya Naik was also present on the occasion.
"The hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis sir felicitated Suryakumar and Dube, appreciating Team India's remarkable triumph in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. It was a proud moment celebrating India's cricketing excellence," Naik stated.
Legislative Recognition
The honor extended beyond the personal felicitation. In the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday, Chief Minister Fadnavis moved a congratulatory motion to honor the Indian cricket team for its outstanding performance in the tournament.
Fadnavis later posted on social media: "Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution congratulating Team India for winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Heartiest congratulations to captain Suryakumar Yadav and the entire Team India!"
Key Contributions to India's Triumph
The Mumbai duo played pivotal roles in India's title defense. Suryakumar Yadav, captaining the team brilliantly, scored 242 runs in nine matches at an average of 30.25 and a strike rate over 136, including one half-century. His top score of 84 not out off 49 balls against the USA at Wankhede Stadium in the tournament opener helped India recover from a precarious position of 77 for six in the 13th over.
Shivam Dube also enjoyed an impressive tournament, scoring 235 runs in nine matches (eight innings) at a striking rate of 169.06. The big-hitting left-hander's ability to attack spin in the middle overs gave India a significant advantage throughout their successful campaign. Dube also contributed with the ball, taking five wickets in nine games.
Historic Achievement
India's victory marked several historic milestones. The team became the first to win a T20 World Cup on home soil and also the first side to successfully defend the title. This triumph marked India's third T20 World Cup crown, adding to their previous victories in 2007 and 2024.
Both Yadav and Dube were also part of India's 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team, making them repeat champions in the shortest format of the game.
The felicitation ceremony underscores the significance of Mumbai's contribution to Indian cricket, with local heroes receiving recognition for their role in bringing global glory to the nation.
