United States Forward Patrick Agyemang Ruled Out of 2026 World Cup Due to Achilles Injury
The United States men's national team (USMNT) will have to cope without one of its rising stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Derby County confirmed that forward Patrick Agyemang has suffered a serious Achilles injury.

Agyemang, 25, picked up the injury during the first half of Derby's 2-0 victory over Stoke City on Monday, a crucial result that moved the Rams within one point of the Championship play-off places. The club did not specify the exact timeline for his recovery but stated unequivocally that the injury will cause him to miss the tournament co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
"Everyone at Derby County is fully behind Patrick at this difficult time and will continue to support him every step of the way," the club said in a statement. "As a result of this injury, Patrick will unfortunately miss this summer's FIFA World Cup. At this stage, it would be wrong to put a timeline on his recovery."
Agyemang made his USMNT debut under head coach Mauricio Pochettino in January 2025, marking the occasion by scoring in his first appearance. He has since gone on to net six goals in 14 caps for his country. His most recent international outings came during the March break, where he scored against Belgium—though the USA fell to defeat—and came off the bench in a loss to Portugal.
At club level, Agyemang has been a standout performer for Derby since joining from MLS side Charlotte FC last summer in a deal that could rise to £7.3 million with add-ons. This season, the forward has directly contributed to 13 goals in 37 Championship matches, leading the team in that category. He has also scored 10 league goals, second only to Carlton Morris's 11.
The injury is a significant blow not just for Derby's promotion push but for the USMNT's preparations for the World Cup on home soil. Fans and teammates will be hoping for a swift recovery for the promising attacker.
