Erling Haaland Chops Off Iconic Ponytail, Leaving Teammates and Fans Stunned
Shock of the Year? Shock of the Decade?
The Premier League's obsession is so strong globally that even a haircut can stop the presses. And Erling Haaland just delivered the haircut of the year — possibly the decade.
The World Cup's darling ponytailed giant decided to chop those waving golden locks, and the result has left the football world buzzing. Haaland now looks like — depending on who you ask — Eminem, a character from a Guy Ritchie movie, or a 10-year-old.
The Reactions
In a YouTube video of the big event, Haaland FaceTimed several friends after the chop, including his old coach Pep Guardiola, teammate Jack Grealish, and soccer legend and commentator Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
As occasionally happens, Ibrahimovic spoke for many: "What the f*** did you do?? Oh my god, what the f*** is this?"
Grealish was more diplomatic, saying he liked it but offering one cutting observation: "You look about 10 years old."
Haaland's own assessment? He looks like Kevin from "Home Alone."
Will He Be Faster?
One question Haaland answered in the video: Will he be faster now? "I hope so," he said.
In his first match of the season, Haaland didn't score or assist, but his Manchester City side won 2-1 against Bournemouth. The Golden Boot winner from last season — the Premier League's top goalscorer — faces a LOT of competition this year. Can he make it back-to-back? Only time — and perhaps a more aerodynamic hairstyle — will tell.
