New Liverpool Signing Jeremy Jacquet Set for Shoulder Surgery Ahead of Summer Move

Liverpool FC's highly anticipated summer signing, defender Jeremy Jacquet, is facing a setback before he even arrives at Anfield. The 20-year-old French centre-back, who completed a reported £60m (€69.5m) transfer from Stade Rennais in early February, sustained a serious shoulder injury just six days later during a 3-1 defeat to Lens.

Rennes confirmed on Tuesday that Jacquet will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair the injury to his left shoulder. The club issued a statement saying, "On February 7, defender Jeremy Jacquet left prematurely, with an injury in his left shoulder. Following the examinations carried out, a surgical intervention is scheduled in the coming days. Stade Rennais F.C. wishes him a speedy recovery."

The injury, described as "quite serious" by former Rennes manager Habib Beye, has likely ruled the young talent out for the remainder of the season. Despite this, Liverpool remains optimistic that Jacquet will be fit for pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign under manager Arne Slot.

Jacquet, who pipped Chelsea in the race for his signature, has shown promise during his time at Rennes, making 31 appearances across all competitions this season, including 18 in Ligue 1, where he helped the team secure sixth place in the French top-flight. He has also earned five caps for France's Under-21 national team, marking him as one of Europe's rising defensive prospects.

The Premier League champions will be hoping for a swift recovery as they look to bolster their backline for the challenges ahead.
