India Target Series Dominance in Guwahati as Injured Greaves Ruled Out for West Indies
Following a commanding victory in Thiruvananthapuram, India are set to resume their one-day international series against West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, aiming to maintain their relentless batting momentum.

The opening fixture saw India's batting lineup firing on all cylinders. Virat Kohli continued his phenomenal form, reinforcing his standing as the leading ODI run-scorer since the 2023 World Cup, while captain Shubman Gill registered yet another century despite a knock to his elbow. With Gill cleared to play and experiencing no lingering issues after a brief two-day rest, the hosts will look to post another commanding total on a ground renowned for high-scoring encounters.
India Eye Bowling Experimentation
While the top order remains potent, the team management is treating the series as an opportunity to assess bowling combinations across various match situations. India spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule confirmed that roles within the bowling attack may be shifted around.
"During the series, we will come across certain changes, purely to understand who we can have placed well in the right position," Bahutule said. "When it comes to the fast bowlers, it will be important to see who actually the three fast bowlers would be. Maybe a fourth seamer or an all-rounder. That is yet to be seen. But ample opportunities will be given to all the bowlers to bowl in different phases. You might see Gurnoor bowling the new ball. Things like that. And I think that is very important to know how the players perform, because it is a young side."
Nitish Reddy was handed the new ball in the series opener, and further alterations could see Gurnoor Brar taking early overs or seamers like Mohammed Siraj or Auqib Nabi brought into the XI. In the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav continues to be India's primary wicket-taking threat, while Ravindra Jadeja will be looking to bolster his recent wicket tally despite coach Bahutule highlighting his steady improvements.
Injury Blow for West Indies
West Indies face an uphill task after key batter Justin Greaves, who struck a century in the first ODI, was ruled out of the Guwahati clash due to a calf injury. His absence leaves a significant void at the top of the order alongside John Campbell, potentially prompting Jewel Andrew to open while allowing Sherfane Rutherford to enter the middle order.
West Indies batting coach Floyd Reifer reflected on the batting conditions in India, emphasizing the opportunities they present compared to the Caribbean tracks:
"Your pitches are very good. You watch IPL cricket, you get those pitches: fast outfields, small outfields. So, it is a great opportunity as a batsman to score runs in India. You get value for your shots. Your fields are really quick. It is just a matter of getting in strong positions and hitting gaps. In the Caribbean, it is a bit different. Our pitches are a bit slower. You have got to manufacture some more shots or try to create more power in terms of stroke play. But over here now, it is totally different. They actually love it because the ball comes on to the bat."
An excessive heat alert is in effect for Guwahati, creating demanding afternoon conditions for the side bowling first at the venue, which has witnessed 300-plus totals in all four previous ODI innings hosted.
