Vijay Dahiya Named Delhi Head Coach as DDCA Appoints Rajkumar Sharma State Mentor
Former India wicketkeeper-batter Vijay Dahiya has been named the head coach of the Delhi senior men’s cricket team for the upcoming domestic season, marking a significant overhaul in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) coaching hierarchy.
Alongside Dahiya’s appointment, Rajkumar Sharma—best known as the childhood coach of former Indian captain Virat Kohli—has been appointed as the state mentor. In another key administrative move, former Delhi cricketer KP Bhaskar has taken over as the chairperson of the senior men’s selection committee.
A Proven Track Record in Domestic and Franchise Cricket
Dahiya, who represented India in two Test matches and 19 One-Day Internationals, returns to familiar territory. He previously enjoyed multiple successful stints at the helm of Delhi cricket, most notably guiding the state side to a memorable Ranji Trophy title in the 2007-08 season, which snapped a 16-year championship drought.
Beyond his domestic achievements, Dahiya boasts an extensive coaching resume in top-level franchise cricket:
- Kolkata Knight Riders: Served on the coaching staff during their Indian Premier League title-winning seasons in 2012 and 2014.
- Lucknow Super Giants & Gujarat Titans: Worked as an assistant coach, contributing valuable tactical expertise.
- Uttar Pradesh: Headed the state coaching department prior to his return to Delhi.
A Revamped Leadership Group
The DDCA’s new leadership structure pairs Dahiya’s tactical acumen with the grassroots knowledge of Rajkumar Sharma. Sharma has maintained deep roots within the Delhi cricket ecosystem for decades and brings invaluable mentorship experience to the state dressing room.
With Dahiya leading the squad, Sharma guiding overall player development, and KP Bhaskar steering selection matters, Delhi will be aiming to re-establish itself as a dominant force across all formats in Indian domestic cricket.
