Inter sign Djed Spence from Tottenham on five-year deal to replace Dumfries

Inter confirm Spence arrival from Spurs

Inter have announced the signing of right-back Djed Spence from Tottenham. Spence has signed a five-year deal with the Serie A champions after they agreed to pay a reported €35m (£30m) fee for the England international.

Djed Spence in action for Tottenham

The 26-year-old made 85 appearances across all competitions for Spurs, while also being loaned out to Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa since signing for the Premier League side in 2022.

Defensive output at Tottenham

Across the last two seasons, when Spence was a more regular contributor in the Spurs team, he won the second-most duels among all Tottenham defenders (366). He also won the third-most tackles (82), recorded the third-most interceptions (56) and created the joint-second-most chances (36).

Spence helped Spurs win the Europa League in 2024-25, ending the club's 17-year wait for a major trophy.

World Cup form boosts move

He also impressed for England at this summer's World Cup, where the Three Lions finished third under Thomas Tuchel. Spence made 19 tackles at the 2026 World Cup, the most by an England defender in a single edition since Ashley Cole in 2002 (25).

Replacement for Dumfries

Spence is now set to replace Denzel Dumfries in Cristian Chivu's Inter squad, with the Dutchman joining Real Madrid earlier in the transfer window.

Inter won both Serie A and the Coppa Italia in 2025-26; their league campaign begins at home to Monza on August 22.
