Coach moves to end speculation over teenage superstar

Barcelona's Hansi Flick has moved to calm mounting speculation about Lamine Yamal, revealing that the teenage World Cup winner was battling nothing more serious than a minor headache during the win over Elche.

Social media was ablaze with rumors after Yamal was spotted looking unhappy following his substitution against Elche. Speaking ahead of Thursday's La Liga match, Flick confirmed there was a simple explanation for the youngster's demeanor.

"He had a minor issue, a headache. Lamine is a genius, it's understandable. He's had three weeks off and has only trained a few days. It's normal that he's not at his peak," he told reporters.

The coach was eager to underline what the World Cup winner still contributed in his hour on the pitch, despite not being at full fitness.

"We need to find a solution so he can get back to his best, but I really value his 60 minutes. He pressed very well on the first goal and on the second he passed the ball to Raphinha. He gives us more options. He helped us a lot and he's doing well. We'll see how he progresses, but we need him because he's exceptional."

Flick also addressed Yamal's attitude when he is withdrawn from matches, insisting the star's desire to stay on the pitch is a sign of a true champion rather than a cause for concern.

"It's normal that he wants to play. When you're a true champion, you always strive to win the next title," he added. "That's his attitude. Every player on the team is hungry to win a third consecutive league title. We're ready and we'll fight for it."

Barcelona and Yamal are back in action on Thursday at home to Athletic Club and then face Rayo Vallecano at Camp Nou on Monday.
