Frosinone Halt Como's Unbeaten Run as Romano Schmid Inspires 2-0 Triumph

Cesc Fabregas suffered his first Serie A defeat of the season as Como saw their unbeaten start brought to an abrupt halt in a 2-0 loss away to Frosinone on Sunday.

Romano Schmid proved the architect of Como's downfall, providing two assists in the first half to set up goals for Giacomo Calo and Giorgi Kvernadze, allowing Frosinone to leapfrog their visitors and climb into fifth place ahead of the international break.

Schmid Sparks First-Half Surge

The encounter began at a frantic pace, with Fabregas' side coming agonizingly close to taking an early lead. In a chaotic sequence inside the box, Tasos Douvikas had a flick saved before Martin Baturina saw his follow-up cleared off the line by Ilario Monterisi. Lorenzo Palmisani then produced a sharp stop to push another Douvikas header onto the woodwork.

Frosinone quickly countered, with Fares Ghedjemis seeing a one-on-one effort smothered by Como goalkeeper Jean Butez. However, the hosts broke the deadlock just a minute later. Schmid drove down the right flank and delivered a precise low ball from the byline for Giacomo Calo, who fired into the roof of the net to register his first Serie A goal.

Frosinone maintained their momentum, as Gabriele Bracaglia tested Butez and Antonio Raimondo passed up several openings to double the advantage. The second goal arrived on the stroke of half-time following another counter-attack. After Palmisani denied Nico Paz at one end, Schmid surged forward and found Kvernadze, who beat Butez with a powerful strike to make it 2-0.

Palmisani Heroics Seal Victory

Como pushed aggressively to claw their way back into the contest in the second period. Fabregas introduced Moise Kean at the break, but the Italy international and Paz were both repeatedly thwarted by an inspired Palmisani.

Palmisani capped a stellar performance with seven saves in total, including a remarkable acrobatic tip-over from Jesus Rodriguez's thunderous effort, preserving the clean sheet and securing all three points.

The result marks back-to-back home Serie A victories for Frosinone for the first time since November 2023. Kvernadze also etched his name into the history books, becoming only the second player in Frosinone's history—following Matias Soule in October 2023—to score in three consecutive Serie A appearances.
