Barcelona Prepare €115m Bid for Julián Alvarez After Atlético Reject Initial Offer

Barcelona Ramp Up Pursuit of Álvarez

The board at Barcelona are giving serious consideration to sending a new-and-improved bid to La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid for Julián Álvarez. This comes as Joan Laporta and co. prepare to ramp up their efforts to land the Argentine before the new season gets underway in Spain.

Initial €100m Offer Rejected

Barcelona of course tabled a high-profile offer for Álvarez earlier this summer, which was subsequently knocked back by their counterparts in the boardroom at the Metropolitano. The proposal in question was worth a sum in the region of €100 million.

The understanding at the time was that this marked the maximum fee which the Blaugrana were willing to reach, making a transfer highly improbable.

New Report Suggests Increased Bid

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media early this week is anything to go by, then the Camp Nou brass now appear ready to up the stakes.

As per a report from Diario Sport, citing El Desmarque: 'The first formal proposal was around 100 million euros fixed and now, according to the new information, it could go to 115 million.'

The increased offer demonstrates Barcelona's determination to secure the services of the World Cup winner before the transfer window closes, despite the initial setback with their first bid.
