WTC Standings: Bangladesh Overtake India After Series Sweep Over Pakistan

Bangladesh national cricket team has made significant strides in the latest World Test Championship (WTC) standings after completing a remarkable 2-0 Test series sweep over Pakistan at home. The consecutive victories have propelled Bangladesh ahead of India in the WTC table, marking a notable shift in the championship race.

Bangladesh's Rise in WTC Standings

The Tigers first defeated Pakistan by 104 runs in Mirpur and followed it up with another convincing win in the second Test. As a result, Bangladesh climbed to fifth place in the WTC table with 58.33 percentage points. This remarkable turnaround comes after consistent performances in the current WTC cycle.

India's Slip to Sixth Place

Despite having more total points in absolute terms, India national cricket team have dropped to sixth place in the latest WTC standings. The rankings are determined by percentage points rather than overall points earned, which proved crucial in this case.

Led by Shubman Gill, India have had an inconsistent start to the current WTC cycle. The team has played nine Tests so far, winning four, losing four and drawing one. India's poor results included a 0-2 home series defeat against South Africa and two losses during their England tour, where the five-match series ended 2-2.

Interestingly, India have not played a Test match yet this year. They are scheduled to face Afghanistan in a one-off Test in June, though that match will not count towards the WTC standings. Later in the year, India will tour Sri Lanka and New Zealand for important two-Test series that could heavily influence their chances of reaching another WTC final.

WTC Table Overview

At the top of the table, Australia remain firmly in first place with 87.50 percentage points after winning seven out of eight Tests. New Zealand are second in the standings, followed by South Africa and Sri Lanka completing the top four.

Pakistan remain down in eighth place after managing just one win from four Tests in the current WTC cycle, highlighting their struggles in the championship race.
