Napoli cruise past Frosinone 3-0 as De Bruyne bags brace after international break

Napoli ease to routine victory at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona

Napoli marked their return from the international break with three points as they cruised to a 3-0 victory against Frosinone in Serie A.

Napoli returned to winning ways in Serie A with a 3-0 victory over Frosinone at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Kevin De Bruyne netted a brace, scoring either side of Noa Lang's strike, as Massimiliano Allegri's side picked up their third league victory of the season.

Kevin De Bruyne celebrates for Napoli

First-half penalty and quick second goal

Napoli started on the front foot as Rasmus Hojlund struck the right post from Giovanni Di Lorenzo's drilled cross in the third minute, while Leonardo Spinazzola sent a strike from distance over the bar.

The hosts then won a penalty before the half-hour mark as Giorgio Cittadini brought down Hojlund, who initially missed the spot-kick before it was retaken due to encroachment and dispatched by De Bruyne.

The lead was doubled in the 32nd minute. Di Lorenzo saw a poked effort smothered by Lorenzo Palmisani, but the rebound fell to Lang, who took a touch past Cittadani to convert into an unguarded net.

Second-half control and late finish

David Neres sent two promising shots wide of the target either side of half-time, while Scott McTominay made his return following his spell on the sidelines due to heart surgery.

Frosinone showed some threat late on through Giorgi Kvernadze and Tomas Bobcek, but Napoli sealed the win as De Bruyne tapped in from Giovane's low centre in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Bounce-back display for Allegri

There was certainly some early pressure mounting on Allegri after Napoli's slow start to the season, but the Partenopei relieved their head coach with an impressive team display at home after the extended international break.

De Bruyne, Di Lorenzo, Lang, Neres, Hojlund and Giovane all created two chances each as Napoli played on the front foot against their opponents, while Lang led the way in shots (five) and Neres in attempted dribbles (five).

Napoli also won the expected goals (xG) battle 2.76 to 1.01, albeit with their total boosted by De Bruyne's penalty – the Belgian midfielder was responsible for 1.33 of their total xG.

De Bruyne has carried his form from the international break, during which he directly contributed to three goals (two goals, one assist) in three games, back to Napoli, who face Villarreal next in the Champions League.
