Malaysia Cruise to Dominant Eight-Wicket Win Over Hong Kong in Asian Games Opener
Malaysia got their Asian Games campaign off to a flying start with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Hong Kong, China in their Group B clash at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.

Pavandeep and Amir Dismantle Hong Kong
After opting to bat first, Hong Kong, China endured a disastrous start as experienced top-order batters Anshuman Rath and Babar Hayat fell within the opening two overs. While Nizakat Khan and Shiv Mathur mounted a brief 19-run recovery, Pavandeep Singh broke the game open with a devastating triple-wicket maiden in the sixth over.
Reeling at 31 for 5 after the Powerplay, Hong Kong struggled to regain momentum. Muhammad Amir Azim maintained the squeeze by dismantling a slow 34-ball, 18-run partnership between Ehsan Khan and Mathur (29). Backed by sharp fielding, Malaysia's bowling unit restricted Hong Kong to a modest 81 for 9 in their 20 overs, with Pavandeep taking 3 for 11 and Amir claiming 3 for 12.
Virandeep and Syahadat Anchor Comfortable Chase
Malaysia's run chase began aggressively with Muhammad Haziq Aiman hitting two early boundaries before Nasrulla Rana struck twice in three balls to remove both Malaysian openers. However, the early wickets did little to rattle Malaysia with no real scoreboard pressure to dictate terms.
Virandeep Singh and Muhamad Syahadat took control of the innings with an unbeaten 70-run stand. After reaching 33 for 2 by the end of the Powerplay, the pair steadily picked off runs before Syahadat accelerated in the 11th over, smashing consecutive sixes off Mohammad Ghazanfar. Virandeep then closed out the match in style in the 12th over with a four and a six to seal the emphatic win.
Both teams will turn their focus next to upcoming group fixtures against Oman.
