Torino Crush Monza as Three Consecutive Serie A Wins Return After Seven Years
Toro Flying High
Torino produced another statement performance, crushing Monza with three superb goals to register their third consecutive Serie A victory — a run the club had not managed for seven years. The result lifts Torino to sixth place for a night, two points above city rivals Juventus, and has reignited fan enthusiasm at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
The goals came from Fitz-Jim, Belghali and Nikola Vlasic, and the celebration spilled out under the Maratona as supporters savoured a remarkable resurgence.
'What a Soul!' — Abate Hails Reaction
Coach Abate got everything right on the night and was quick to praise his players' character after Varela's 1-1 equaliser threatened to derail the performance.
"What a reaction after Varela's 1-1, what a soul!" Abate said.
Vlasic, who found the net on the night, admitted the feeling of scoring in front of the home support had been sorely missed.
"I missed scoring a goal; it was nice to see our fans happy again," he said.
Belghali, another of the scorers, is already looking for more.
"I hope to score more goals like this," he said.
Juric: 'They Were Better Than Us'
For Monza, there was little consolation. Coach Juric offered a blunt assessment of the defeat.
"Nothing to say, they were better than us," Juric said.
The emphatic win continues Torino's climb up the table and adds extra spice to the Derby della Mole picture, with the Granata now sitting above their more decorated neighbours in the standings.
