Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen reveal how daughter Harper has reshaped their lives

An unexpected lesson in unconditional self-love

Hailee Steinfeld is discovering that motherhood can change the way a person sees even the most familiar parts of life. Just months after welcoming her daughter with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, the actress has opened up about a lesson that reaches far beyond parenting. For Steinfeld, becoming a mother has made self-love less personal and more powerful.

Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen

Steinfeld shared the reflection on June 12, 2026, in the summer edition of her Beau Society newsletter, where she answered questions from readers. One fan asked what her daughter had already taught her despite being so young. Steinfeld's answer offered a glimpse into how quickly motherhood had begun to reshape her thinking.

"Where to start! One of the most unexpected things I've learned from my daughter is the importance of modeling unconditional self-love."

Steinfeld then explained that she was still figuring out how to put that lesson into practice. Her point, however, was clear. A child does not only learn from what a parent says. They also learn from what a parent believes about themselves.

She wrote that, during the early stages of raising a daughter, she had realized that the way she sees herself can influence the way her daughter eventually sees herself. That idea gives her comment a deeper meaning. Steinfeld was not simply talking about confidence or feeling good about one's appearance. She was talking about the example a parent sets every day, including the way they respond to mistakes, pressure and their own insecurities.

For someone who has spent much of her life in the public eye, the realization carries particular weight. Steinfeld grew up working in entertainment, where appearances and public judgment can become part of everyday life. Motherhood appears to have given her a different reason to think about those pressures.

Welcoming baby Harper

Steinfeld and Allen entered parenthood in April 2026. The couple announced the arrival of their baby girl through Steinfeld's Beau Society newsletter, describing themselves as grateful and blessed while asking fans to respect the intimacy of those early moments.

By June, Steinfeld had begun sharing more reflections about the experience. She later revealed that her daughter's name is Harper Haize Allen, in a June 19 letter dedicated to the baby. In that emotional message, she described her daughter as someone who had already taught her more than she expected to learn.

The timing matters. Steinfeld's comments about self-love came only a few months into motherhood, when the experience was still new and unpredictable. She was not presenting herself as someone who had mastered parenting. Instead, she was acknowledging that she was learning alongside her daughter. That honesty is part of what makes the reflection resonate. New parents are often expected to have answers. Steinfeld's approach suggests something different: sometimes the most meaningful part of becoming a parent is realizing how much there is still to learn.

Josh Allen on the meaning of fatherhood

Allen has also spoken openly about the impact of becoming a father. Before his daughter was born, the Bills quarterback said he was looking forward to becoming a dad and made it clear that the role meant more to him than any professional achievement.

"Becoming a dad is something that I will take with great pride. This is the most important thing I'll be in my life, being a dad," Allen said in January.

That perspective became even clearer after Harper's arrival. In April, Allen explained that his reasons for playing football had begun to change. The quarterback, who has spent years under the pressure of leading Buffalo, suggested that fatherhood had given his ambitions a more personal foundation. His football career remains important, but his motivation now extends beyond himself.

Weeks later, Allen became visibly emotional while speaking about his daughter at a charity event supporting the Patricia Allen Fund. He said becoming a father had changed the way he viewed parents dealing with serious challenges involving their children.

"Having my daughter," Allen said, "I look at parents differently, because I can picture myself in that situation now where I never could."

The quarterback went on to describe the year as completely different and spoke about the instinct every parent can understand: wanting to protect a child from pain. His comments reveal a side of Allen that is easy to miss during the intensity of an NFL season.

Choosing to be present

Steinfeld has also spoken about slowing down and appreciating the fleeting nature of having a newborn. During a June 17 Beau Society livestream, she said her goal was to be fully present and absorb as much of the experience as possible because children change so quickly.

That mindset connects naturally with her comments about self-love. Motherhood is often portrayed as a story about what parents give up. Steinfeld's experience suggests it can also be about what they discover. Her daughter has prompted her to reconsider how she speaks to herself, how she views her own imperfections and what kind of example she wants to leave behind.

For Allen, fatherhood has changed the emotional meaning of the people he sees around him. For Steinfeld, motherhood has turned the mirror inward. Neither appears to be claiming that they have figured everything out. In fact, their most revealing comments suggest the opposite. They are learning in real time.

Harper is still very young, but her arrival has already changed the way both parents understand love, responsibility and the kind of people they want to become. Steinfeld's lesson about unconditional self-love is ultimately bigger than celebrity motherhood. It is about the quiet example parents set when nobody is watching. Children may not remember every piece of advice they receive. They may, however, remember the way their parents treated themselves.
