India Name 15-Member Squad for Zimbabwe T20Is: Sanju Samson Dropped, New Faces Emerge
Major Shake-up in India's T20I Lineup
The Indian selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, scheduled to take place in Harare starting July 23. The squad sees a significant overhaul, marked by the omission of several regular players and the introduction of fresh talent.
Sanju Samson Omitted Due to Form
In a surprising move, world-cup winning wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has been excluded from the squad. Samson's omission follows a disappointing run of form; he struggled in the series against Ireland (scoring 0 and 5) and managed only one run off seven balls in the series opener against England at Durham, leading to his drop from the playing XI in the second T20I.
New Faces and Key Returns
The squad introduces three maiden call-ups: fast bowlers Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur, and wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh. Both Sharma and Thakur impressed during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, with Thakur boasting an average of 9.88 and Sharma clocking a season-high speed of 154.2kph during his IPL debut with the Gujarat Titans.
Rinku Singh makes a high-profile return to the side, alongside Mayank Yadav, who returns to the national setup for the first time since 2024 after battling injuries. Additionally, Harsh Dubey earns his maiden T20I call-up following his ODI debut against Afghanistan in June.

Shreyas Iyer will captain the side, with Tilak Varma serving as vice-captain. The full T20I squad is as follows:
- Shreyas Iyer (C), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma (VC), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Rinku Singh, Harsh Dubey, Varun Chakaravarthy, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav, Prabhsimran Singh (WK)
