Fàbregas plans for the future with Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea clause

Former Barcelona star Cesc Fàbregas ensured that a clause was included in his contract with Como to make a potential future move back to Catalonia's capital as straightforward as possible. According to Marca, citing Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the arrangement is far more than a simple escape hatch — it is a carefully designed route back to any of his former employers.

'Cesc Fàbregas was forward-thinking when he signed with Como. The Arenys de Mar native has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave under special, very affordable conditions should any of his former clubs – Barcelona, Arsenal, or Chelsea – come to offer him a job,' Di Marzio reports.

From Serie A surprise to Champions League debutants

Fàbregas is for his part widely considered to be one of the standout up-and-coming tacticians in Europe at present. After taking up the reins at Como back in the summer of 2024, the 39-year-old has since cemented himself firmly in the history books. Following a top-four finish in Serie A last season — ahead of the likes of Juventus and AC Milan — Fàbregas guided his troops into a first-ever Champions League campaign in 2026/27.

Not only that, but Como got their adventure in Europe up and running with a three-point haul at the expense of RB Leipzig, adding European credibility to a remarkable rise under the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder.

All the while, though, Fàbregas is keeping a close eye on the job situations at three of his former employers. Barcelona, for the time being, remain more than happy with Hansi Flick, but Fàbregas is viewed as a potential long-term successor to the German at Camp Nou.
