Non-League Teammates Told to Find New Clubs After 'Inexcusable' On-Pitch Altercation
Non-League Teammates Face Club Exit After On-Pitch Brawl
Two teammates from eighth-tier side Rushden & Diamonds have been instructed to find new clubs after being sent off for an on-pitch altercation described as "inexcusable" and a "nightmare" by club officials.
The Incident
Forward Bruno Andrade, 32, and fellow forward Tyler Winters, 20, were both dismissed in the 21st minute of Saturday's Northern Premier League Midlands Division fixture against Loughborough Students. The incident occurred in the 21st minute of Saturday's Northern Premier League Midlands Division fixture against Loughborough Students with the team trailing 1-0.
Bruno Andrade, 32, and fellow forward Tyler Winters, 20, were both shown straight red cards after a physical confrontation that reduced Rushden & Diamonds to nine men before halftime. Both players had been captaining the team during the match.
Rushden & Diamonds' live commentary feed captured the shocking moment: "I have never seen anything quite like this. A coming together between Bruno and Tyler, not the first of the game, results in the two players being shown straight red cards! It's an absolute nightmare for Diamonds who now have 9 men and no forwards!"
Club Response
Following an internal review, the fan-owned, community-driven club announced that both players would not represent the club for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign and were "free to pursue opportunities" elsewhere.
In a strongly-worded statement, the club said: "The actions seen during the incident do not reflect the standards we expect of those representing AFC Rushden & Diamonds. As a fan-owned, community-driven club, we have a responsibility to uphold those standards and to act when they are not met. On this occasion, the issue extends beyond on-pitch contribution."
Manager Elliot Sandy explained the situation to the club's in-house media: "They had a bit of a disagreement on the pitch and culminated in those two coming together. The linesman said there was a bit of hands and stuff between the two of them, and two red cards. They've let themselves down, let the club down, they've let their teammates down. It's inexcusable."
Player Reactions
Both players took to social media to address the incident. Andrade posted on X: "Sorry it's ended this way," while also thanking the club and supporters.
Winters expressed a different perspective, stating: "I tried to remove myself from the situation long before the red but got told to carry on," while also thanking his teammates and the club's fans.
Background of Players
Bruno Andrade brings significant experience to the eighth-tier side, having spent several years in the English Football League (EFL) with clubs including Queens Park Rangers, Salford City, and Lincoln City before joining Rushden & Diamonds last summer.
Tyler Winters, at just 20 years old, also joined the club in the summer. Interestingly, both players participate in the celebrity-backed six-a-side Baller League outside of their club commitments.
Match Outcome
The incident proved costly for Rushden & Diamonds, who went on to lose the match 3-0 to Loughborough Students. The defeat leaves the Northamptonshire side ninth in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division, five points outside the play-off positions with their season significantly disrupted by the loss of two key attacking players in such extraordinary circumstances.
