Sivakarthikeyan clarifies stance on smoking scenes: 'If the story demands it, we’ll do it'
Sivakarthikeyan clarifies stance on smoking scenes while Seyon shoot continues in Madurai
Actor Sivakarthikeyan has explained his approach to smoking and drinking scenes in films, saying he avoids them when they are not needed for the story but will perform them if the role requires it.
The comments come as he works on his upcoming Tamil film Seyon, which is currently being shot in Madurai. Directed by Sivakumar Murugesan, the film has generated interest among fans ahead of its planned release next year.
‘I don’t want to scare directors’
Speaking at an event, Sivakarthikeyan said he does not want directors to feel restricted by his personal choices.
“In my initial films, I used to do some scenes like that. After that, whenever the characters didn’t demand it, I avoided it. I don’t want to scare directors. If the story demands it, we’ll do it,” he said.
The actor explained that his decision is based on whether such scenes suit the character and the story. He added that he does not want filmmakers to avoid writing certain scenes simply because they assume he will not perform them.
Allergic to smoke, jeera water for drinks
Sivakarthikeyan also spoke about his personal discomfort with smoking and how drinking scenes are handled during filming.
“I’m allergic to smoke, and for drinking scenes, I’ll ask for jeera water. So, I’ve been following this practice consistently in my films, and the directors haven’t compelled me to do it,” he said.
His comments offer a clearer picture of how the team handles such scenes on set. Rather than treating it as a strict rule, Sivakarthikeyan said he considers the needs of the story while staying comfortable with the way these scenes are filmed.
Seyon progress and family screenings
Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan’s Seyon is progressing with its shoot in Madurai. The film is directed by Sivakumar Murugesan and draws inspiration from the symbolism associated with Lord Murugan, which is reflected in its title.
Sivakarthikeyan has said the film is shaping up well and expressed his wish to arrange special screenings for fans and their families when it releases next year. As work on the film continues, his latest comments have also highlighted his focus on balancing a character’s needs with his personal comfort.
