Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has issued a blunt wake-up call to Randal Kolo Muani following the striker's underwhelming performance in the club's Serie A season opener against Frosinone.

Despite securing a 1-0 victory courtesy of a 22nd-minute goal from defender Bremer, Spalletti was far from satisfied with the attacking output of his frontline, specifically highlighting Kolo Muani's struggles to make an impact in the final third.

Spalletti's Frustration and Warning

Kolo Muani, who re-joined Juventus from Paris Saint-Germain following a loan spell at Tottenham last season where he scored five goals in 41 appearances, played the full 90 minutes. However, the French international managed just one shot on target from three attempts, generating only 0.4 expected goals (xG) out of the team's total 1.99 xG across 20 attempts.

Speaking to DAZN after the final whistle, Spalletti did not hold back in his assessment of the forward's display.

"We went and got Kolo, we’ve looked after him and we know what his value is," Spalletti said. "But he has to realise that he hasn't played for two years and there must be a reason for that. Sometimes you think you're at an exceptional level, but you've left something behind that you need to go and get back."

Search for Another Striker

The Bianconeri tactician also revealed that Juventus remain active in the transfer market for another attacking reinforcement to bring different qualities to the squad.

"These are matches in which you have to take goals home because the spaces are in your favour," Spalletti added. "The striker we’re looking for might have different characteristics. Today the spaces were there, but we weren't able to exploit them."

"I would have preferred the team to show it has an identity, and it did that. At certain moments we're a bit light, we're not good at bringing that determination. But it can happen, especially at the start. We'll work on it."

The victory maintained Juventus' formidable record on the opening weekend of Serie A, having won 14 of their last 16 curtain-raisers (D1 L1) while keeping clean sheets in each of their last five.
