England Club Scores 417 Runs in 20 Overs in Historic T20 Match: A Cricket Video Game Come to Life

An Extraordinary Display of Power Hitting

In what can only be described as a cricket match that looked more like a video game, Dumbleton Cricket Club posted a monumental total of 417/2 in 20 overs in the Varistha Cheltenham Premier T20 league in England. The extraordinary batting performance on Tuesday left cricket fans around the world in disbelief, with the scorecard resembling something from a computer game rather than a real-world match.

The match, reported by Wisden, saw Dumbleton completely dismantle the bowling attack of Hatherley & Reddings CC, winning by a massive 188 runs. The numbers are staggering - 417 runs in 20 overs translates to a run rate of over 20 runs per over, with the team clearing the boundary 47 times.

Ewan Gegg's Masterclass

Opening batters Thomas Kelly and Ewan Gegg gave Dumbleton a flying start, adding 112 runs in just 6.1 overs. Kelly made a quickfire 64 off 25 balls before getting out, setting the platform for what was to come.

Gegg then took charge and remained unbeaten on 206 from just 55 deliveries - an innings that included 13 fours and a massive 23 sixes. His strike rate was nothing short of extraordinary, treating the bowlers with utter contempt throughout his stay at the crease.

"It was an incredible innings," said a team spokesperson. "Ewan played with amazing freedom and confidence."

Dan Holland's Blistering Knock

Dan Holland, who walked in during the seventh over, added to the run-scoring frenzy with 122 off just 37 balls. He struck four fours and 16 sixes during his 41-minute stay at the crease, forming a formidable partnership with Gegg.

The two put together 211 runs for the second wicket in only 59 balls - that's a run rate of over 21 runs per over for that wicket partnership alone. Even after Holland's dismissal, Dumbleton were still short of the 400-run mark, such was the insatiable appetite for runs.

Gegg then took control of the closing overs, facing 19 of the last 24 deliveries to carry his side past the 400-run mark in spectacular fashion.

Boundary avalanche

What made this performance even more remarkable was the sheer volume of boundaries. Dumbleton scored 370 of their 417 runs in boundaries, hitting 22 fours and 47 sixes. That's an average of over 2.3 sixes per over - a rate that would be impressive even in the most explosive T20 competitions around the world.

Hatherley's Brave Chase

Chasing a target of 418, Hatherley & Reddings had to attack from the start with the required run rate already above 20 an over. Despite the daunting target, they produced their own display of aggressive batting.

Opener Harry Bloomfield scored a brilliant 109 off just 48 balls, including six fours and 12 sixes. However, despite their best efforts, they were bowled out for 229 in the final over, falling well short of the target.

Hatherley & Reddings also cleared the ropes 19 times, taking the total number of sixes in the match to an incredible 66 - a record that will be remembered for years to come.

Fittingly, it was double-centurion Gegg who picked up the final wicket of the match as Dumbleton completed their 188-run victory - a result that barely reflects just how one-sided this extraordinary encounter was.
