Perfect start continues as Barca dominate possession

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona secured ownership of a five-year La Liga benchmark en route to victory over Getafe on Saturday evening. The reigning Spanish champions returned to action after the international break and waltzed to a 3-0 triumph at home to José Bordalás’ Getafe, making it a perfect nine victories from nine to open the 2026-27 campaign.

Passing benchmark wrestled from Real Madrid

The result was accompanied by a statistical milestone in possession. As revealed by statisticians SofaScore, the Blaugrana’s 787 accurate passes against Getafe were the most by any team in a single Spanish top-flight fixture over the last five seasons.

Flick’s men overtook the previous benchmark of 768, set by Real Madrid, also against Getafe, back in May of 2023. The record-breaking passing display underlines Barcelona’s control in the Getafe clash and adds another chapter to the ongoing rivalry in La Liga metrics.

With the win, Barcelona remain perfect at the top of the table and extend their momentum heading into a congested run of fixtures.
