Feyenoord’s Givairo Read named FotMob Young Player of the Month
Read recognised after a creative September
Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read has been named FotMob Young Player of the Month, with the award recognising a run of influential performances for the Rotterdam club.
Read recorded four assists in three matches during September, averaging a FotMob rating of 8.5 across those appearances, according to the report. His top mark came in Feyenoord’s 7-0 Eredivisie win over PEC Zwolle, where he provided three assists. He also made 11 touches in the opposition box in that match, with only teammate Anis Hadj Moussa registering more.

A threat going forward—and in defence
In the Eredivisie campaign described in the report, Read had five assists and created seven big chances, both more than any other Feyenoord player. He has been deployed high on the right, often functioning as an additional attacking outlet, while also contributing defensively: the report says only Charles Vanhoutte averaged more tackles per 90 minutes in that season.
“I like to attack,” Read said. “I’m like an extra attacker. The connection I have with my right winger is good. I go in front a lot and he passes me the ball a lot so I can get assists like last month. I also have to defend a lot, but I like to defend.”
Feyenoord’s title challenge and Read’s next steps
At the point covered by the report, Feyenoord had won seven and drawn two of its first nine Eredivisie fixtures, scoring 39 league goals. Read’s attacking contribution has helped the side maintain its forward momentum, while his experience has continued to grow after a five-month injury absence the previous season.
The report also notes that Read played every minute of Feyenoord’s Champions League league-phase matches against Barcelona and Como, and contributed to a win over Como. Roma were reported to have negotiated with Feyenoord over the defender during the summer, while Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest were also mentioned as clubs said to be monitoring him. Those links remain reported interest, not confirmed offers or moves.
The monthly award is decided using average FotMob match ratings and is run in conjunction with Rising Ballers. For Read, it recognises a strong spell in which he has offered a blend of chance creation, box presence and defensive work from right-back.
