BCB Seeks to Mend Ties with BCCI at India-Pakistan T20 World Cup Clash
BCB Aims for Reconciliation with BCCI During High-Stakes Encounter
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is eyeing a pivotal moment in cricket diplomacy during the upcoming India-Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup. BCB president Aminul Islam has indicated plans to thaw relations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the event scheduled in Colombo on February 15.

This initiative comes on the heels of Bangladesh's withdrawal from the T20 World Cup due to security concerns, after the International Cricket Council (ICC) denied their request to relocate matches from India. The decision led to Scotland replacing Bangladesh, decided by ICC votes.
Aminul played a key role in a tripartite meeting in Lahore, persuading Pakistan to engage with India. The ICC assured no sanctions on Bangladesh and confirmed they would host an ICC event between 2028 and 2031.
"The ICC has taken a decision. The major stakeholders of the ICC are these five Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan) and for the India-Pakistan match on the 15th in the World Cup, they want representatives of all five Asian countries to be present at the ground together, watch the match together and talk to one another," Aminul was quoted in Prothom Alo.
"You can consider it as something like that (an ice breaker between us)," he added.
To ensure lasting agreements, the BCB is pushing for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). "We will also enter into an agreement. The agreement will be line by line, an MoU-type [Memorandum of Understanding] document, so that there is no uncertainty," Aminul stated.
He referenced a past ACC meeting in Dhaka where a similar MoU prevented deviations. "Similar discussions (regarding preparing the MoU) with the ICC are more or less finalised," he noted.
This move highlights the interconnected dynamics among Asian cricket boards, potentially fostering better collaboration in the region.
