Goldson hits out at Rangers over handling of Tavernier exit

Former Ibrox defender lifts lid on club's exit politics

Connor Goldson has taken aim at Rangers over the treatment of former captain James Tavernier, claiming the club mishandled the defender's departure from Ibrox.

Goldson's criticism carries particular weight given his own exit from Ibrox two years ago, when Rangers paid the defender to leave and join Cypriot side Aris Limassol — a settlement that brought his time in Glasgow to a close on negotiated terms.

Speaking via Open Goal, as reported by the Daily Record, Goldson suggested the manner in which Tavernier was moved on failed to reflect the service the former skipper had given the club during his lengthy and trophy-laden Ibrox career. Tavernier, a hugely influential figure in the Ibrox dressing room across multiple title-winning campaigns, had long been seen as a cornerstone of the Rangers side before his exit.

Rangers have not publicly responded to the criticism, but Goldson's intervention reignites debate over the club's handling of veteran departures and how loyalty is rewarded once a player's on-pitch role winds down.
