Romaine Mundle has promised "a lot more to come" after signing a new contract with Sunderland that will keep him at the club until 2030.

Mundle, who joined Sunderland from Standard Liege two years ago, agreed to fresh terms on Tuesday with the Black Cats. The 23-year-old has played 52 times in all competitions for Sunderland, registering eight goal involvements (six goals, two assists).

He played a crucial role in helping Sunderland return to the Premier League in 2024-25, but a hamstring injury restricted him to just 16 appearances in all competitions last term. Since enduring that injury-hit campaign, Mundle is now eager to make amends and shine for this season.

'I want to prove myself'

Speaking to the club's website after his deal was confirmed, the winger expressed his gratitude and excitement about the future.

"I'm really grateful. It feels amazing to be a part of the club," Mundle said. "I want to prove myself and consistently build and give the fans what they want, but mostly I just want the squad to do well, compete and surprise people.

"I'm growing every day, training hard and the people around me are really helping, so I think there's a lot more to come."

Mundle has not played a competitive game for Regis Le Bris' side since February, but he was named on the bench for Sunderland's 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town on Saturday.

'A big season for Romaine'

Sunderland's director of football, Florent Ghisolfi, highlighted the winger's significant development since his arrival at the Stadium of Light.

"Romaine has developed significantly since joining the club, and we have seen his potential grow through his performances and his work on the training ground," Ghisolfi told the club's website.

"He has important qualities that can make a difference at this level, particularly his pace, directness and ability to create opportunities. At 23, there is still plenty of room for him to develop further.

"We are pleased that he has committed his future to Sunderland, and we look forward to supporting him as he continues to grow and make an important contribution to the team."

Sunderland have won their opening game in just one of their last nine Premier League campaigns (D4 L4), with that victory coming against West Ham last season (3-0), and they welcome Fulham to the Stadium of Light this Sunday.
