Lamine Yamal backs Atlético defender Marc Pubill after Madrid derby win

Yamal reacts to Pubill’s derby display

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has taken to social media to send a message of support to Atlético Madrid defender Marc Pubill after the defender played a starring role in his side’s derby day victory over Real Madrid on Sunday.

Pubill featured from the off at the Metropolitano as Atlético welcomed arch rivals Real for a La Liga clash. En route to Diego Simeone’s troops holding Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Jr firmly at bay, the 23-year-old impressed once more.

Considered one of the standout young defenders in Spanish football at present, Pubill was also part of Luis de la Fuente’s La Roja squad which marched all the way to glory at this summer’s World Cup.

Instagram backing from international teammate

On Monday, the former Almería talent received public support from one of his most high-profile international teammates. Taking to the comments of Pubill’s latest Instagram post celebrating Atlético’s derby win, Lamine Yamal unveiled a series of emojis in support.

The gesture underscores the links between the Spain internationals despite Yamal playing for Barcelona and Pubill representing Atlético in La Liga’s fierce Madrid derby.
