Ajax agree €6m deal with Barcelona to sign defender Jofre Torrents

Barcelona have finalized an agreement with Dutch giants Ajax for the permanent transfer of young left-back Jofre Torrents in a deal worth €6 million.

The Eredivisie club will pay €6 million, split between fixed and variable amounts, to acquire 50% of the 19-year-old defender's rights, with Barcelona retaining the remaining half to benefit from any future resale. Torrents is scheduled to travel to Amsterdam in the coming hours to complete a medical and sign a long-term contract.

Torrents, who made his La Liga debut for Barcelona against Real Mallorca at the beginning of last season and featured in Hansi Flick's pre-season preparations, had been highly regarded by the coaching staff. However, Barcelona's requirement to generate transfer funds made a sale attractive for both parties.

The deal marks the second transaction between the two clubs this summer, following goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen's loan move to Ajax earlier in the window.

Further Departures Loom at Camp Nou

The departure of Torrents is expected to trigger a broader clear-out of fringe talent and academy prospects at Barcelona as sporting director Deco works to balance the squad and wage bill. Several other young players, including Hector Fort, Marc Casado, Tommy Marqués, Guille Fernández, and Toni Fernández, are also tipped to depart the club before the transfer window closes.
