Rishabh Pant makes history as first Indian to hit 100 Test sixes

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant etched his name into the history books on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian cricketer to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket during the opening Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.

Pant reached the landmark in his trademark aggressive fashion, pulling a delivery from Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara over long leg for a maximum. Nuwantha attempted to haul in the catch near the rope, but could only watch as the ball sailed safely over the boundary. The resounding stroke also brought up Pant's 20th half-century in the longest format of the game.

Pant Joins Elite Company

With his century of maximums, Pant became only the fourth batter in Test cricket history to reach the milestone. England captain Ben Stokes leads the all-time chart with 138 sixes, followed by former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum with 107. Pant is currently tied on 100 sixes alongside legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist.

Remarkably, Pant has reached the century mark at a staggering rate, averaging just 49.2 balls per six throughout his Test career—far quicker than Gilchrist (67.92), Stokes (90.05), and McCullum (93.39).

Most Sixes in Test Cricket History

  • Ben Stokes (England) – 138 sixes
  • Brendon McCullum (New Zealand) – 107 sixes
  • Rishabh Pant (India) – 100* sixes
  • Adam Gilchrist (Australia) – 100 sixes

Pant's attacking approach continues to redefine wicketkeeper-batting in Test cricket, consolidating his position among the game's most devastating middle-order match-winners.
